Wow Peter what a view indeed!! I’m not sure I’ve seen the interactions between prominences and corona presented so clearly before. The detail is sublime. Wonderful!!

Thanks David. The image is in homage to Fred Espenak, who created a similar image in 2001.

It was very dramatic but lacked the resolution you can now obtain with digital imaging.

Surfing the web, while there are many ultra-detailed coronal images (e.g. Drukmuller) I did not find any high resolution examples of the chromosphere
....hence am very pleased about being able to tease out the fine details seen in this image.

(The original 5K image is tack sharp.... even on an A2 print)

Ta. The EOSR5 performed brilliantly during the mad minute of totality. It's sustained RAW frame burst rate is 20fps which helps when you are trying to get as much data as possible.

FYI The data is not a product of sharpening software. I used Avistack to combine the sharpest sections of about 70 frames...which I have to say worked quite well
