Woolworths and Duracell

I tried to buy Duracell batteries in 3 different Woolworths supermarkets today, and they no longer stock them. Staff were no help.
Anybody know what's happening?:shrug:

Woolworths pushes me AWAY from them more and more every day.

I am almost EXCLUSIVELY Aldi now anyway. Rather Germans got it than the greedy sum-beotches at Woolworthless.

+1 I always get Duracell. Chevrons aren't too bad but Eveready are utter crap. How can they keep a straight face referencing a study that says otherwise? Really? :rolleyes:

Thanks Justin-its just a nuisance not being able to buy them when I do my weekly grocery shop. Eveready don't seem to last as long as Duracells

I don't buy Duracell as they always leak,
I had to get the battery compartment of my ARGO NAVIS replaced
as it was ruined by them.
They where only in the ARGO for about two weeks .
I have had them leak in other things like torches, so I have given them the flick.

You can buy now rechargable NiZn batteries that give you 1.6V per cell. About $25 for 4 AA batteries and charger. I got four AA about three weeks ago from eBay and so far they seem to last as long as alkaline ones. How long they will last only time will tell.

The two stores are changing a lot of products to their own brand named products. I went to buy something at Coles last week only to find that they no longer stock it, but they have substituted it for their own brand. I am getting a little fed up with this practice. Before long, it will be their own brand or nothing. If I can't get the brand I want, then I will stop shopping at these two stores.

I really don't like being dictated to by these companies. I want the brands I like, not what they want to sell.

They are only interested in profit margins, forget about delivering what the customer actually wants. People are being suckered into this, as they are selling more of their own brand names, at least, according to Coles.

And, it is going to get worse, particularly for pensioners, when the government roll out their Basic Card to all pensioners, as has been suggested in the news, which will only allow you to buy food at Coles or Woolworths. MONOPOLY, bought to you by the suckers and the Government.

OK, rant over, I feel better now.....NOT!

The Aldi Alkalines are really good quality and I reckon last as long as Duracell, longer infact and every now and then are on special at around $12 for 24 AAs.

I agree, no reason to spend big on alkalines. I rarely buy them but when I do I get the big packs from Aldi or Dick Smith. Normally I use Eneloop or Powerex rechargeables, or Energizer lithium AAs.

Bunnings have 30 packs of VARTA alkalines for $8.99.

Very good quality with no leakage & good shelf life.

I've used VARTA in my big KM Flashhead ( Guide 56 ). Last quite well as that thing can punch the joules and light out a long way.

There's plenty of places to buy Duracells-its just the inconvenience of going somewhere else.
I know Bunnings stock them as well as Varta, but its a reasonable drive to get to my nearest Bunnings-I'll just have to stock up on my occasional trips there.

Its no secret that Coles & Woolworths are pushing their own home brands. I note that Woolworths home brand batteries has packaging nearly identical to Duracell.

They probably are Duracell rebranded for Woolworths. I am changing all my Sony rechargeable batteries to the Sanyo Eneloop XX version. From my research, these seem to be the best available now.

Bunnings & Coles are owned by the same company..Wesfarmers.

They have a Duracell exclusive to sell bulk as long as they don't supply Woolworths. It's predator marketing.

I don't shop much at Coles and Woolworths these days but when I have I notice that more and more of my preferred lines are missing. Luckily an IGA super store has opened some time ago much, much closer and I do all my shopping there now. They still have my favourite lines and they also have a little bit of old fashioned service. Their prices are as good as anywhere overall and I don't have to drive.

They sell Eveready and Duracell. I don't have to worry about the price because I can slip them into the weekly shopping basket that comes out of the food budget Sh! Sh! don't tell SWHMO or I may have to buy them out of my allowance.

I'm afraid my experience with Duracell is the same as Ron's. They leak even when well within their shelf life. I will never buy Duracell ever again.

My experience with Duracell is they last longer than any other brand. I've had a set of AAs in my transistor radio (used only occasionally) for more than 10 years.

I bought up a heap from Coles, Duracell AAA's were half price, unfortunately they're a necessary evil, too many gadgets now need AAA batteries.

Re the Varta brand, I use AAA's in my prawning torches, I find that Varta's don't last as long, nor is the brightness as consistent when compared with Duracell or Energisers. They're still good value though.
