Hi there,

I have a new Celestron Evolution 8" scope and it's great apart from not much use in the last week and looks pretty dim over the next following week. Typical Melbourne weather.

The Red Dot Finder Scope I'm having trouble setting up, seems so simple but alignment is a pain. Is there a better quality finder scope that somebody might suggest? It's the only piece on the new telescope that I find not up to scratch.:help:

:welcome: to Ice in Space Keith!

Congrats on your new scope :D

If the red dot finder they included is the same as with the older Nexstar scopes then it's not very good and big C should be ashamed of themselves... does it look like a little rifle sight with a bright red dot in the middle?

I use a Rigel Quikfinder on my C8 and smaller scopes...it's small and light, can be found at Telescopes & Astronomy (http://telescopes-astronomy.com.au/rigel-systems-astronomy-telescopes-quick-finder.htm)

For the same price though, you can get a Telrad...quite a bit bigger but with one extra outer ring.

Hi Camelopardalis,

Yeah the Red dot finder is a let down, but the scopes great. I've been looking on the Internet this morning and are looking at a Olivon Multi-Reticle Finderscope with Base, looks very similar Orion EZ Finder Deluxe II Telescope Reflex Sight, but not as high.

It's from B & H in the US :D this is where I bought my scope from. The one that you suggested looks good also.
