Nice little video of some great aeroplanes doing what they were made for. Also some more great planes in the background, how about the Fokker Triplane hanging up in the rear when they were parking the Spitfire in the hanger.

Its not a straightforward comparison, each aircraft had advantages over the other, and the marks of Spitfire in service when the 190 was introduced
were outclassed, by both the 190 and the 109G. Later marks redressed the imbalance. The Hurricane and Spit both had the same Achilles heel, that being that the engine, unlike its German counterparts, was not fuel injected, and hence if the aircraft was inverted for more than a second or two, the engine spluttered and took a few valuable seconds to get back to its desired power output. Only the late marks of Spit had a clear superiority over the 190.
Then the 262 came along, and would have made both of them obsolete
had the 262 been produced in large numbers before the war ended.

Absolutely brilliant, as some of the comments below the clip say, it is hard to imagine 18 year olds flying those beasts, how times have changed. Beautifully restored aircraft, noticed the BF109 there with other gems of the era. Top clip that is for sure thanks for putting it up FD.

Agreed,
I don't know if Australia has Amazon Prime Video or not, but the doco "Air Wars" can't be missed if you are a WWII "fan"...
Ep 1 - Supermarine Spitfire
Ep 2 – Hawker Hurricane
Ep 3 – Messerschmitt BF109
Ep 4 - Focke Wulf 190
What a lot of people don't know is that the Spitfire was outmatched against the FW190 until the American's developed a 100 Octane with the Mk-IX Spitfire (with the new Merlin 2-stage intercooler), at which point the Brit's regained air supremacy due to increased HP.
The FW190 was then designed with a Methanol-Water cooler which improved the performance…just. By that time, the American’s and British were on daily bombing runs, which prevented the further development of the FW190 series.
