Hi all,

I'm looking to fit one of these:
http://www.onlinegaragedoors.com.au/welcome/page4.php
Can anyone give me any feedback good or bad about how
reliable they are....not necessarily this exact product but
the general type of auto door opener depicted here...ie
soft start, remote controlled, manual overide...force detection..dc motor etc

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Steve - not sure if you are referring to the roller door or the panel lift door opener?

I've got a Glyderol panel lift door with opener - a bit like the BOL4 in your link however it has a long threaded rod that rotates rather than a chain. It has been installed for 9 years and has never been a problem mechanically however the vibration causes the internal lights to fail frequently and the rotating rod mechanism is really noisy. I've seen the chain variety working and they seemed much quieter.

Thanks Peter for the feedback,

the roller door application was what I meant.

Hi Steve,

I've had one of the Boss units in a new door for about 2 years without a hitch -- not a single glitch since day one. Is also pretty quiet. No experience of the others so can't help with them -- this was my first ever auto door.

We recently replaced a broken firmadoor unit with a Merlin 430 (http://www.easterngaragedoors.com.au/index.html).

The Merlins appear to have better motors and a better de-clutch/drive mech than the B&D and firmadoor. Don't know about soft start but most/all have motor stall detection & reverse.

With the Firmadoor, our door wrapped it's convolutions on top of the door jamb around itself & we couldn't de-clutch it because all the drive gears had pressure applied to them. This cause the drive cogs to rip off teeth. This was a problem with it's drive design...even though it had a de-clutch it would not work when really needed.

With the Merlin, the de-clutch is directly from the drive gear thus the above situation could never arise.

Any way 2C worth.

Steve, if it's garage door openers you want advice on, 'Bert' on this forum (Brett) might be the man to ask. I believe it is his specialty (other then building observatories and astrophotography that is).

I work for Gliderol Garage doors, and work with roller door motors day in day out... At Gliderol, we use in house motors for our doors that i dont think can be installed onto other brand roller doors. We use pretty unique drums compared to other makers...

A few of our installers have fitted MR600's and MR850's into doors for people and have never reported any difficulties with them, and I've also never heard of any of them needing any servicing after being fitted...

Where would I be without IIS people!.
Thanks so much for the experiences and advice.

I want to install a MR850 hopefully myself...it shouldn't
be too hard to do.

Thanks K, I will pm Brett, cheers.

Steve
