Do you keep the tradition of a xmas tree setup on the 1 Dec?

I had live trees for a few years, now I have gone back to artificial trees..

When we were kids, we always had a huge (to us) tree and guess what? No lights those days, just clip on candles - how dangerous:eyepop:
Then in the sixties, I worked for the Forestry Commission and a few Norway Spruce trees fell into my possession (?) and I planted them in my mother's garden. Years later, I lived next door to her and used to sell the trees from the gate:D Paid for the turkey and trimmings for years!!
Now it is a rather skungy Norway spruce in a pot which we drag inside on Christmas Eve, and decorate with ELECTRIC lights:).
In our home no decorations ever went up till Christmas Eve, and they stayed up till the 12th day of Christmas (Jan 6th). Epiphany.:P

We keep the Christmas tree spirit alive each year. We wait for the grandkids to come over and put up and decorate the tree. This year we are down to one Grandkid as the other one lives too far away to visit often.

When we were young in England, our Mum always put the tree up together with lights sometime early December. So we continue the tradition here and our kids love it. They want them up earlier each year :lol:, but early Dec is early enough for me.

Plus we also decorate the inside living room/living area ceilings with streamers made from crepe paper and twisted to show two colours, and those decs that are made from coloured foil and cut to Christmassy shapes. It usually looks awesome and we all love it. It all comes down on 6th Jan as someone said earlier.

It makes Christmas more ..... Christmassy. Try it if you don't already do it :D

We've never had a "real" pine xmas tree .... though mum and dad did for many years when we were kids .

Had fake xmas trees (plastic) in this household but not bothered dragging out the box and reassembling it over the last few years, haven't put the tinsel up either.

We'd have the blinking lights on the tree , but never left them on .

Made the effort when our kid was little.

If we ever have grandkids, we might revive the xmas tree thing (for them).

It's always good to see the Chrissy tree go up.

I always dress up the RMB as well to cheer up people as they drive past.

We have an artifical tree that tries desparately not to topple with all the decorations the kids put on. Will post a pic of it later when have new batteries in the camera (I think they got 'borrowed' by my son for his robotic dog...cheeky little thing).

not 1 Dec but 1st Sun of Advent which was Nov 29 this year.

1st year in our house I cut a branch of the big pine tree. What a mess, never did that again.

One year I think it was getting close to Easter when we decided it really was time to take the tree down :rofl:

These days it stays up for the 12 days of Christmas.

Kids have been pestering for the lights since the tree went up so that will be my weekend. I hope enough of them still work.

Yes i have to put up the tree on the 1st December every year, the kids dont let me get away with it :D But i have never had a real tree so next year i might just do that :thumbsup:

Chrisie tree went up Dec. 1.

Our little take on it is every year the kids are allowed to add one new decoration each. We did a little filling out the first year- of cause. Doesn't take too long for the tree to real fatten.

we have a 25cm fibre optic tree so we don't have to worry about mess and/or decorations..looks nice at night though

We have a fibre-optic thing that I love because I can be amused by lights turning colour forever.
Lately though we've been hunting ours 'free-range', I think they taste better.

Allways did big tree nearly 8 foot from when the time the girls where old enough to apppreciate

Not anymore as the girls are grown up and they don't help and I never had one as a child so it's not my thing really but just more work for my wife which she can no longer do.

May buy a smaller one for her benefit though as I think she likes the idea of the tree.

No, usually we wait for a few days after Dec 1. When we were younger had a real tree and candles on the tree, (I think a Dutch tradition) however things change and now we just set up an artificial one. Miss the smell of the fresh tree - and it was always sad to take it down - plus pine needles everywhere.

We put our tree up about halfway through November. Chrissy is a big thing at our place.

I am sure that if my wife had her way, it would be the 12 weeks of Christmas, not the 12 days.:lol:

We have a live one in a pot, so I like to bring it in two or three days before Christmas. I don't like to stress it out too much.

The real tree, even though in a pot, would need a couple of feet off the top to get into the house. And a trolley to move it.

It will be the fibre optic one sitting on a corner table again this year.

My poor wife Kee put our Christmas tree up yesterday and decorated the whole house, It looks great. :thumbsup:

She put all the Christmas lights around the tree and tested it out with all working perfectly. :)

Now you know what happens next, Kee waits until dark to show me the lights AND nothing happens, it's a blown bulb. :eyepop:

I'm cracking up because I can see the shades of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase coming through and Kee was not impressed. :mad2:
