View Full Version here: : Problems with IC capture software and Windows

Hi all. Wondering if someone can provide some laymans advice (I get confused with a lot of the computer jargon) about a problem I started having this morning.

I'm using the DMK21AU with the associated IC Capture software (version 2.1) running Windows Vista. It's been fine with previous nights but this morning I was using it and experienced the following.

I had just finished capturing an avi run and attempted to get ready for another when I reved a windows message that said "IC capture.AS has stopped working. Windows is collecting more information about the problem. This might take several minutes."

I closed the application down, restarted IC Capture, saw the camera in the "select device" menu and clicked onto it but still got the same message.

I then uninstalled the IC capture software and reinstalled it but I still getting the same message when I reopen IC capture and go to select the camera.

any suggestions???:confused2::shrug::he lp:

Try reinstalling, or updating the camera drivers. I've had a few problems with ICCapture but in most cases its the driver or at least pertly the driver that's at fault.

Hi Al

I reinstalled the camera driver and IC capture.AS software off the cd that came with the camera but no change to the problem.

Any other suggestions?

Uninstall, power off, power on, then reinstall. I've often found you need to do a full shut diown to tidy up the 'mess' after one of these crashes. I've actually rebooted twice to make sure sometimes.

Hi Brent, gave it a go. Uninstalled it. Turned it off and on twice (are to be sure to be sure and I'm not Irish). Then reinstalled the drivers and IC capture off the CD and it's still giving the same error message when I click on to select the camera.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately I'm bald and pulling my hair out.

Are you using the driver off the disk or the latest from the website?

Try downloading the latest dribver from the website. The one on the disks are often not the latest by the time you get them.

If that doesn't solve you problem, I have only one suggestion left I think... My last issue with IC Capture and the DMK drivers was a clash with CA Internet Security Suite 2010. Worked oK for years with CA ISS 2007, but gave m no end of grief when I updated to 2010. So have you installed any new software about the time the problem started?

Al, I'm unaware of any recent updates that might have caused the problem. I captured 1 run and was about to do my 2nd when the problem started so I was already using it at the time and not connected to the web when imaging.

I've been using the files on the disk that came with the camera to try to reinstall it.

In relation to internet security I've got Kaspersky. I've had no problems with it before with this program, and a check of it indicates that it has classified IC capture as 'low restricted' so it shouldn't be preventing it running.

I went into The Imaging Source website and found the driver for the usb dmk21 its a zipped file "icwdmuvccamtis.en_US.zip". I didn't download it yet because I'm unsure of a couple of things.
- Do I need to uninstall the driver and IC capture again before I download and install this file?
- would all the files in this unzipped file replace all the files on the disk or would it only replace the driver?
- when installing IC capture.AS off the website, do I still use the key that came with the disk to finalise/verify the installation?

G'Day Tony,

I'm sure I have successfully updated the driver in the past without uninstalling IC Capture, however, if you want to be sure you can.

The download will only replace the driver, not the software.

Check the version of IC Capture you have on disk. If it's v2.1 then there is no advantage in downloaded the latest IC Capture from the website (it's v2.1 too). And yes you will use your key to activate it.

Hi Al from what I can see I'm already running v2.1 so I didn't download it. And so the problem still exists. I've sent an email through to The Imaging Source website. Hopefully they'll get back to me in a few days with some solution.:prey:.

Tony,

v2.1 is the version of ICCapture.

The driver is independent of this. Have you updated the driver?

Thanks all who tried to help me.

The good news is - Problem solved. :rofl::rofl::rofl:.

I received a response from the Imagining Source people the next day. They couldn't pinpoint the problem for me at that time but suggested 3 things: 1. Could be the usb cable. 2. gave me the link to the latest IC capture software. 3. Gave me the link to the latest driver.

I was wondering which way to go about it but didn't seem to be in much of a rush about it due to all the cloudy weather we've been having lately and my limited knowledge of trying to solve computer problems.:P.

Anyway, tonight I took the plunge and downloaded the latest capture software from the link they gave me i.e. IC Capture 2.2. The camera started up fine. :thumbsup:.

Now for the wait for the skies to clear up. Opposition of saturn fast approaching. :D

I hope this helps anyone who might experience this problem in present or future.

Now the problem is solved. I finally had the setup out last night. I got the image on the computer, but I could change settings on the camera properly.:bashcomp: After about 20mins, I downloaded the lastest driver and installed it, went back outside and it worked fine.

Al, it looks like you were right, I needed to reinstall an updated the driver off the imaging source website too.:thumbsup:

The DMK's IMHO are great cameras - work well for me with solar and spectroscopy...
