Nice review John. It looks like a great scope. How do you find the helical focuser? I have a much older Coronado scope with a focuser that is now giving me grief, but I imagine the focusers in the new scopes are much better.

Very useful that!
Thanks for posting.
Were are you BTW?

"Casstony" in Gippsland has a Lunt 60mm DS with pressure tuner (or he has until he goes away on vacation and I steal it :) ).
A comparison of the two would be great.

To DaveM, Helical focuser is Ok to use but has a bit of backlash. JW

Jen, my girlfriend keeps dropping the same (not so subtle) hint. She wants a solar scope. What's a guy to do?

Her birthday is next month and OPT has them in stock. I'm sunk!

Actually we've both wanted to get a solar scope for a long time now. We always stop to look every time we happen to bump into one. OPT often devilishly has one or more set up to ensnare people with. But the good ones with good solar views run from US$1200 and up.

I'm keen to see how it compares to a PST retrofitted to an ED80 or similar. There is a bit of a PST modding community and I love a hack.

I have a coronado pst. I would like to upgrade to a solarmax 60 becource i would like “ zoom” in more ( for pst 11 mm is useally max for surface detail and 8 mm for the prommences.) ooh ya one more thing: can the solarmax 2 rust? If so, then maby i go for a lunt.....thanks!

Hi Andre,
Nothing wrong with the Solarmax 60 - its a good solar scope. Like any scope you need to keep it in a dry place. They should not rust if kept properly.
Solarmax 60 is better for imaging but I have seen excellent results from PSTs.
Cheers,
