My son, sent me this image-I know there are quite a few aerospace workers and pilots etc here.

So he asked me to post here, for viewpoints and feed back.He told me about it on the phone and was rather excited.I did not expect the images to look like this.He got a whole series and will paste them together to make little vid.

He saw the 747 on some 'airplane tracker' thing of the internet, and could see it was at Gold Coast,so would be passing Coopers Plains with in minutes, and set up gear as the 747 came into view a tiny cessna came to land in at Archerfield. He indeed up with quite an interesting image.

Taken with a Canon 600D and very budget level 90-300 mm.

Image 1 orginal JPEG,image 2 a bit of a polish up.

Height of planes 747 approx 3000-3500 ft

cessna 172 1000-1500 ft

Its fairly rare fore 747's to come into Brisbane, and double that for a flight path over Joel's house.
So is always happy to even see one,but get a good image, with no clouds and blue sky (that's the really hard bit)
and a cessna thrown is as well, looks rather interesting.

Still about 2000ft between them Gary. The image has created quite a bit of interest around the world, and the CEO of the company that owns the trainer
Cessna 172 want the image for advert purposes.

Hi Chris,

I appreciated from your original post that they were maintaining safe separation,
so it was just my little joke, but the foreshortening of distance from the long focal
length creates the illusion that they are closer than they are which enhances the
dramatic effect and makes it a compelling image.

As a side story, years ago I was a passenger on-board a commercial flight on something like an MD-11
en route from SFO to LAX. Our aircraft got caught in the wake turbulence of a heavy in front
us and just as well the seat-belt light was on as our aircraft fell short of a barrel roll,
first violently rotating what seemed like 70 degrees one way, then suddenly rotating 180 degrees from there in the
the other direction, before the pilots regained control. The captain
apologized that we had hit wake turbulence and I wouldn't be surprised if some people didn't
release their grips of the armrests until we landed.

Great to see the exposure in the UK "The Telegraph" as a Picture of the Day
and that the image has been picked up by others. A lot of punters must have seen it.
Also great that the Cessna owner has made some inquiries as to using it.

Congratulations to Joel!

This photographic knack with aircraft must run in the family.
