A Prawn Closeup (IC 4628)

Seems a lifetime ago but we had some consecutive clear nights around the full moon in May and I was able to collect about 15hrs on the prawn nebula (IC4628). Since my c14 only has 0.5x0.3deg fov I thought I'd frame up the 'tail' and see what detail I could extract. I used the L-Ultimate filter, channel extraction in APP, and post processing in PI.

Not sure I'm fully happy with where this landed, but I think I've squeezed about as much as I could from the data available. I used a modified foraxx pallet, but had to be very careful with the colour as the fine detail in that dusty tail was very easily obliterated. I think if I ever come back to this it'll be with the hyperstar - a much more appropriate focal length for this target.

Thanks for dropping by and here's the link to a higher quality version.

Aaaah a close up of Jah Jah Binks, very cool.

I think some more fiddling with the contrast and shadows might be able to bring out more depth but still looks great.

Your stars are lovely dots, do you use any star rounding at all?

Dave,
Nice image under Moon glare and B7 skies although I must admit, it does look a tad flat in contrast and colour.

The Prawn is one of those smaller targets that benefits from a wider field where you can expose and take advantage of some of the Oiii and Sii unlike say the Lagoon or Carina where you can go exploring deep in and around all the incredible structures and still expose all three channels in deep colour

Some folk say it’s one of the lesser attractive nebula but I put it above the Lobster and Cats Paw in every facet

Well done !!

Martin

PS: Have we been jinxed, June has been horrible so far , maybe Sunday to Tuesday might give us a window ?

That's quite a unique, close-up view with some great detail.

Nicely done Dave.
