Imaging on the Edge (And a Super Moon!)

The conditions have been woeful the last week but still attempted some lunar imaging in and around perigee on the 18-19th Sept.

18th Sept - some closeups on the North-Western lunar limb @ 99.4%
c14 @ f11 with the asi178mm & IR685 filter

Very unstable conditions and so jumpy I had severe troubles with the stacking in AS!4. Love the rugged terrain and the almost 'landscape' appearance as you look from such a shallow angle. Other than Pythagorus, had trouble identifying some of these craters/features?!?

19th Sept - 4 panel mosaic of the moon @ 100%
c14 @ f7 with asi2600mc Pro (no filter)
Even worse conditions than the day before, but not such an impact since looking at the wider view. Includes some colour saturation in LR.
Higher Res Version

ASICAP
AS!4
Registax6
Light Room
ICE (mosaic)

Hoping for some better conditions over the next few days...
Thanks for looking!!

Dave,
Some excellent lunar vistas considering less than ideal atmospheric conditions
Well done !
I’ve been imaging NGC 6559 on the back end of its traverse each night from 7pm to 10pm and my guiding fluctuates every 20 mins from 0.55 to 0.85 , very unstable and that’s only at 1050mm focal length
Still nice to get plenty of clear nights.
Cheers
Martin

Great results in the circumstances. These “low approach” angles are really interesting.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for moonage and other times I'm just 'Not'
Glad to see all these, the full moon is sensational and I'm a little taken (in a good way) by the last composition, fascinating landscape pickings there David, perfect work for the 14"

Thanks so much guys. I don’t normally do lunar imaging on the full moon but I think I definitely want to return to a few of these areas under better conditions.
Bob- I’m glad you liked that last pic- it was by far my favourite for the session as well. There’s just something about the rough and rugged landscape that caught the light perfectly and seemed to accentuate every crevice and ridge.

The full moon is always such a hard target because it's only where dark meets light where there's definition.
Your images blow me away, they are always amazing.
