Yup! I check in once a day. It was your picture of the focuser board clamp
that gave me the idea to do the same. At the time I was wondering how I
would do it myself. Plus the calibre of your work from your pictures is very
inspiring.
It's good to see that you are building a Nasmyth as well.

It simplifies the mount considerably. I want to mount it on a mel bartels driven alt azimuth mount sitting on a stand which elevates it to a suitable height- a variation on the idea shown here (where they are using equatorial platforms instead)-
I did a bit today on the front of the rocker box. I started of by making a template out of 5mm ply so I could use it as a guide for the router.
With the template done I transferred the pattern on the front of the rocker box and drilled a few holes to make cutting with the jig saw easier. I didn't cut it right on the line but left a 3mm or 4mm overhang.
The way that I secured the template onto the board was with some double sided tape (it held very firm).
Using the flush bit on the router table, I took the excess material off and then used the radius bit to round all corners.
I'm just curious to know how people would rate this thread?
I mean is it a help to most people considering building their own telescope?
I think Ian and Rob might have got something out of it.

Ed I just wish this was all on a video - that you could have over dubbed the commentary and said what was happening when and why
I think everything so far has been outstanding, although the shapes for the rocker box have me thinking - was that to save on the overall weight of the unit?
It will all make sense when it is all put together. I wanted an artistic flair to the whole thing. It also allows for a bit of air circulation and if it reduces the weight so be it.
Every part of the telescope has to do it's job and the good part about designing your scope, is that you can experiment with the way it looks as well.
With a bit of spare time up my sleeve this long week end I continued on with the rocker box.
The most difficult part of the box was the sides because I chose to use sealed bearings (instead of Teflon and Formica) and the holes had to be made to accommodate them. I didn't want to much chipping on the edge of the bearing holes so I opted to make the holes first then the routing not the other way around, it worked quite well and with a bit of sanding it should come up nice.
Interesting that your using bearings instead of the standard teflon and
formica. I'm guessing your going to employ some sort of striction brake.
I'm about to think about the side bearing on my lil fella along with the
rocker box. But I'll be going with the standard teflon and formica, but
will be keeping an eye on how you go about it for ideas on my next
project : )

Rob I noticed in bunnings the other day they had roles of formica 1"
with an adheasive back that you iron on , don't know how well it would work on a scope but might be worth a look .. do you have some for your base board yet ?.. as I have a bit left over if you want to have a look at it.

Didn't know the 1" formica at bunnings, will be over in Lismore on Friday so
I'll drop in and have a look. I'm using the original base board, actually I'm
using the plywood from the old setup the build the mirror box and rocker box
there seems to be some sort of avocado coloured laminex on the base board.
Apart from that I was thinking of buying some formica stardust @ $66 per
1200mm x 600mm sheet. But if I can get the 1" strips I'll have everything I
need to complete the job.

Yes Rob all the bearings will be individually braked.
