Blue Horsehead IC4592

My first attempt at this target, and I found it rather difficult because how faint it is. I stuffed up the framing a bit but I'm actually really happy with the end result. I had a bit of a strange gradient going on but also not sure because there is a fair bit of nebulosity going on and perhaps it is ok?

15 hours of luminance, and 2 hours each of RGB with the FSQ85 and ZWO6200.

I think it looks pretty good. That is alot of luminance for what is substantially a blue target. I had a look at your histogram on Astrobin. There is a fair amount of red but that is understandable in that area of the sky, but your blue looks comparatively weak. What tools are you using to process the colour?

That's lovely and subtle but strangely also quite magnificent, great job

Love the tight stars. That dark area looks like a dust area. A good result Erik.

Thanks Glen, yes it might have been a bit overkill but I looked at the 6hr set and felt it was a bit faint? You make a good point about the blue, and something I perhaps overlooked? Would you suggest matching the colour exposures a bit closer to the luminance? I’m using Pixinsight for all my processing, and I used the new Spectrophotomerty colour calibration tool. I have by no means mastered Pixinsight and there are many functions I don’t use! I will revisit it and try push the blue a bit more. Now that I think about it I never embedded an ICC profile.

Thanks for the feedback mate.

Erik

Meant to say, looks like the gradient you refer to (?) might be vignetting? Are you confident your flats are ok?

Oh yeah I actually don’t know. I did use PI’s Gradient tool at some point. I might look at the flats again…

Bit of a reprocess, hope the blue is not too punchy, though now looking at the original I agree it was not blue enough.

Nice blue-horsey Erik.

It's a big beast and it would be hard to fit it all in with a telescope.

A very nice image - almost impossible to capture from my city location and rarely seen in much detail. Well done!
