Snow Globe

I suspect this would make an excellent astro-nerd snow globe

Hope you like it!

Our milky way galaxy encapsulated! An impressive image that would make a fine poster for ones living room wall (or any other wall for that matter). Well done.

Ta. The full-res version looked very cool on my iMac 5k monitor, hence I suspect an A3 print would hold up very well.

What surprised me about the shot was how dark the site was....there was no sign of any sky glow to the naked eye. Yet with a time exposure human activity still became apparent.

Wow

That is so different to the usual deep sky offerings.

Very clever/imaginative and technically perfect imaging. How did you plan this?

Thanks for posting

The “plan” was to be at the Menindee lakes to grab an epic milky way arch over the lake.
Clouds dashed that idea.

On our last night at “The Hill” I figured the Mundi Mundi lookout would be a good place to get an all sky shot.

OSC at 8mm is easy. Point, click, repeat

That is a stunning image Peter!
I figured you've used a fish-eye lens but what gear did you capture it with?
I don't have a dedicated fish eye just some small adapters which go on other lenses but nothing which captures quality like this.
Now I want to go outside and play and see if any of them fit on a lens on my D810. Lucky for me it's overcast, good excuse for not getting a lousy image. Though I think my adapters only fit my old Panasonic FZ50 not so compact compact camera. Not sure they'd fit any of my Nikon lenses but I'm going to have a look. I do have one times .8 but it only fits my 300mm lens, not quite fish eye enough.

My images never look like yours!

Edit: I must learn to scroll down.

What was the exposure time if you don't mind my asking?

I didn't know what an EOSRa was, I do now.

That's very cool, if you produce these, I want one!
It is reminiscent of the classic "The Galaxy is on Orion's Belt" scene from Men in Black.

Wow! I really like this image. I've never seen the Zodiacal light captured on a 180degree image.
I'll have to take my ASC to Mundi-Mundi on my next trip north, although I don't expect it to come close to what your rig can do.

High praise indeed. Thanks Stephan

Thanks Andy.

As it turns out I do have an accurate Milky Way laser etched sphere. (pic attached).
They were made by a German company called CinkS Labs who sadly are no longer trading.

There are other Etsy like example out there, but the German one was based on real astrometric data. Very glad I bought one when they were still available.

Thanks Leo.
You've touched on my weakness for fisheye glass ! (pic of my little collection attached).

The beauty of using Canon's EOSRa (their astro modified mirrorless DSLR...now discontinued) is you can bolt any lens to it for wide field work with excellent resolution and h-alpha sensitivity. As a result the total exposure time was only 30 minutes.

One totally Brilliant image there for sure Peter, the smooth round edge is fascinatingly powerful and the eye catching zodiacal light right through is glorious

A stunning presentation. I am very fond of widefield Milky Way images.
Often put up with very cold conditions to capture them.

Greg.

Gee...thought I put that one to bed a while ago, but thanks gents for your positive comments.

Have to say its a mystery how some posts linger like a fart in an elevator and other examples of excellent work sometimes gain little traction.
One of life's mysteries I guess
