How to Debayer in DSS?

Hey guys

Running a QHY8 Pro. I'm new to the mono-to-colour converting.

I have been using Maxim to convert the images one by one, it's fiddly. I know that you can setup auto / recorded commands etc, but I have been told that DSS does a good job of this.

Can someone please run me through the steps to convert a bulk load of OSC mono images to colour via DSS.

Cheers!

Logie.

Sorry guys, looks like my original post made no sense:

I use Maxim DL to acquire images with the QHY8Pro.

The images come out in mono.

I then use Maxim DL to convert each image to colour, manually (it's fiddly). I would prefer to automate this process.

Can I run the same process within DSS?

How?

Thanks

Correct and stack the raw images then covert the final image to colour.

Logan, should be no problem throwing all raw's into Maxim just for color synthesis and reduction without alignment or stacking, save all and then throw all the color subs into DSS If that's what you want.

Robin,I think that would destroy the Bayer Matrix...color Syth should be done before stacking....or is that not what you meant to say?

That is what I meant. I used DSS a lot for the qhy8, going by my old data with dss files mixed in, but maxim worked for me as well.

It's been a couple of years so I went and double checked with some old data and DSS does say it's stacking gray scale fits files when it's stacking so it doesn't appear to convert first, and I also tried stacking a few subs in maxim and I then colour converted the result without issue. There is also a maxim option to auto colour convert in the stacking dialog and that gives you a stacked colour file out of maxim.

Nebulosity says to do that as well? The whole debayering thing seems to be a bit of a black box affair anyway.

Have a look at the DSS wiki. That should explain it, and there is no secrets or tricks, it is very easy. If not, PM me and I'll give you a quick call and walk you through it.

Thanks for the info guys. The Mrs has had me doing the backward blitz. When the weather clears, will grab new data and run it through DSS

Will report back soon.

Transformer, thanks for the info.

I checked out the DSS Wiki and found the following:

http://deepskystacker.wikispaces.com...ck+QHY8+images

Stacking QHY8 images with DeepSkyStacker is easy. Simply follow the following instructions:
  1. take raw, undebayered images. Nebulosity2 works great for this, make sure to select Maxim format. CCDCap works as well.
  2. take your lights, bias and flat frames with the same gain and offset settings
  3. take lots of bias and flat frames (DSS will create masters so you can throw them away if you like). I use 100 of each.
  4. In the Raw/FITS DDP Settings.... dialog, go to the FITS File tab, check the box at the top and select QHY8 from the Camera list. Don't touch Color Adjustments (leave at 1/1/1), select AHD debayering for the best quality.
  5. add lights, bias and flats to DSS
  6. save the filelist as dssfilelist type so you can revisit this project again later
  7. stack (use recommended options at first, then experiment)
From my reading of this... take the mono frames, and all the other frame types and lump them in DSS. DSS then transfers them to colour?

Cheers.

Yes, all your frames just need to be taken in fits(raw mono) and DSS will do the rest. I used Nebulosity 2 for my QHY8 and all went very well.

Here is an old one done with Neb2, DSS and QHY8.
