Ed Stone, Former Director of JPL and Voyager Project Scientist, Dies

One year at the South Pacific Star Party the guest speaker was the Australian
NASA representative, Miriam Baltuck. Miriam herself had brought a guest from
the US with her who I chatted to briefly. The following Monday Don Whiteman
from the Binocular & Telescope Shop who was club president telephoned me
and said, "I saw you chatting to Ed Stone". I knew Ed Stone was the director
of JPL and the person responsible for the Voyager and Cassini deep space
probes and the Mars Pathfinder and Sojourner missions and many others.
"You mean that unassuming guy I was chatting to was Ed Stone! Damn!
I had no idea. So many questions I would have asked!!!"

Now there is a stunning legacy! What an astounding space science (and engineering) leader and hero! Never to be forgotten. Thanks for posting Gary.
